
Peter Braid was elected Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo on October 14, 2008. His background includes diverse experiences in business, government, volunteerism, and community involvement. He attended both the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto, and graduated from the latter in 1989 with a degree in International Relations.
Peter served in the constituency office of Hon. Walter McLean P.C., M.P., worked as an employee of the Immigration and Refugee Board, was a Director of Operations at Sun Life Financial, and more recently was employed as an Account Manager with Quarry Integrated Communications in Waterloo.
Peter is a former member of the Greater Kitchener–Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and the Waterloo Economic Development Committee. He has also volunteered with numerous agencies in the community, and helped to coach his daughter’s minor hockey team.
As Member of Parliament, Peter envisions the riding of Kitchener-Waterloo as a tolerant, forward-looking, environmentally sustainable and economically strong community that fully realizes its potential role in the country and the world.
Peter is a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, as well as the Standing Committee for National Defence.
He is also a member of the Canada-China Legislative Association, the Canada-Germany Interparliamentary Group, the Canada-India Interparliamentary Friendship Association, and the Canada-Armenia Friendship Group.
Peter lives with his family in Waterloo. He and his wife Annette have two daughters, Tamara and Alexandra.
