LONDON, UK – Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener–Waterloo, is in London, England this week, as one of two Canadian Government representatives at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s International Parliamentary Conference on Climate Change: Countdown to Copenhagen.
Representatives from Commonwealth nations are meeting to discuss important environmental issues ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December, 2009. Topics of discussion range from strategies for implementation to the impact of climate change on developing economies. Specific sessions include:
- The Complexity and Scale of the Global Threat: Climate Projections and Impacts
- The Draft Copenhagen Agreement: Does It Go Far Enough?
- Climate Justice: Cutting Carbon Emissions Globally
- International Climate Change Hearing (In partnership with Oxfam)
Peter currently serves on the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development, and has travelled to Alberta with the committee to study the environmental impact of the Oil Sands. He is joined at the conference by Dr. Kirsty Duncan, a former professor of human geography and environmental processes, and the current MP for Etobicoke North.
Peter will return to Kitchener-Waterloo for the week of July 13-17.
